About Stock Ties

Why the stockCare Instructions USEF Rules

Each collar is reinforced with a soft interfacing to insure a crisp look at the neck line.
We use 4 generous inches of Velcro, more than you will find on any other pre-tied stock, to easily adjust to fit any neck size.

Why the stock?

The stock is traditionally used in the hunt field as a safety measure in case of injury. The tie can be used as a temporary bandage for a horse's leg or sling for a rider's arm. It is also useful in keeping rain or wind out of the rider's collar. It is practical hunt field apparel.
Off the hunting field, the stock tie was a formal tie worn in the 19th century by gentlemen. These old stock ties were often black or white, made of gauze, fine cotton or silk. The stock tie was sometimes starched or otherwise reinforced to be stiff around the neck: with the chin forced up, the wearer was thought to look more important and formal. Stocks buckled or hooked up the back and sometimes had bows or ruffles attached to the front.

USEF 2009 Stock rule DR120 Dress

6. In extreme heat and/or humidity in all classes including FEI classes at National Competitions,
management can allow competitors to show without jackets. However, competitors
must wear a regulation hat and solid white or very pale colored long or short sleeved shirt,
without neckwear. T-shirts are not permitted. Members of the Armed Services or police units
may wear summer uniforms.

I actually won a tie breaker once because a competitor did not remove her stock in the heat, but had removed her jacket. The stock she was wearing was knotted up and pinned to her shirt which was drenched in sweat and it was too much of a hassle to remove it.

Pretied stocks are easy on and easy off. Extra velcro on the collar makes for an instant fit.
